Sunday Times Magazine Front Cover - Tideway Tunnel

03 June, 2024

Absolutely thrilled to have my images used for the Sunday Times Magazine cover story recently. Even more so because this was one of the final shoots I will ever do for one of my longest ever projects/clients: Tideway. The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a 'Super-Sewer' built beneath London and I have been photographing the project since 2013 - for 11 years! It's been such a privilege to be a part of documenting such a historic and impressive project and for me, it started by squeezing myself into a drain in Blackfriars - whilst chasing MPs and ViPs down the incredible (but very aged) Victorian sewer system which has been serving London way beyonds its years. I could write a book on this project and my involvement in it.... for another time though. I am not officially an industrial photographer or an architecture photographer however this is a project for the people, and a people photographer is what I am!

For my final shoot in the sewer - before it was closed up to start testing - I had the idea to use FPV drones to help me light my vision. We got quite experimental with it, trying to do things which haven't been tried in this arena before. Big thanks to Tom and the team at Bad Wolf Horizon whose FPV expertise helped me and the team pull off these final images. Click here to see a few more images.
