Before my trip to South Africa at the start of the year, this was the only shot I knew I wanted to get. The way Table Mountain breaks up and dominates the Western Cape capital is actually really confusing geographically. It looks different from every side but I knew it would be from this side that really shows off the 'table' part well and we got lucky with the famous 'table cloth' (as the locals call it) making an appearance too.
I cannot explain how strong the wind was this day - you literally couldn't sit on the beach, the grains of sand hit you at such a force that it was painful, t was only good for kite surfing and kite boarding. This was taken at Dolphin Beach in the Table View area. All you could see was probably 50-100 kite boarders and surfers doing the most ridiculous stunts - the frame for this image was actually full of them but I was able to make the most of the stormy see and expose for long enough to reveal the simple but awesome beauty of this very impressive mountain. The calmness of the result is really a lie, but I like it this way!
