I started 2016 by getting out of the UK with my wife for a month for a mixture of travel and work. The first stop was Hong Kong and this city actually blew me away, seriously I thought not much would top New York in terms of skyline, architecture and vibe but Hong Kong really did impress. Despite colonial trappings about the place, Hong Kong has very much retained its Chinese culture which just fascinates me ... and the food is amazing!
I shot a lifestyle story with 4 teenage models called Dim Sum in Soho. It's a story depicting their afternoon out just being themselves, doing their thing and chilling out HK style. Torrential downpours and humidity made it slightly tough at times but the very nature of Lifestyle Photography is that it is exactly as it is: capturing lifestyle. Rain is very much a part of the Hong Kong lifestyle! Also, authentic Dim Sum is another world of culinary experiences. Aside from the random teas and the odd fish stomach here and there it was the ceremonial washing of the cutlery and crockery (by the customers!) that really fascinated me. The people of Hong Kong simply don't trust the cleanliness and hygiene of most restaurants so this has just become acceptable standard practice. (Having suffered badly with SARs, bird flu etc - it is understandable). Here are a few images from the story, there are more in the lifestyle portfolio.
